Resmed Mirage Quattro Review: My Own Personal Experience

resmed mirage quattro review

There is a lot of competition within the CPAP mask market. With so many options out there, finding the right fit for your needs can be nothing short of overwhelming. To help you in this endeavor, I have written this Resmed Mirage Quatro Review based on my own experiences with the mask.

The Mirage Quattro is one of the few CPAP masks that, even in the face of such competition, has managed to stay popular and preferred by many patients to this day. I purchased my Resmed Mirage Quattro in an act of frustration after my Resmed Airfit F10 left me with a very bruised nose. I wore the Mirage Quattro for about 2 months before writing this review.

Overall, the mask is deceivingly comfortable. I say deceivingly because it actually looks pretty bulky, mainly due to its size and forehead support. That being said, the forehead support turned out to be my favorite feature of the mask. The mask has a lot of great things going for it, but there are a few others that could’ve been done better.

Pros and Cons

Pros

2. Extremely quiet

3. Durable build

4. Easy to remove strap clips

5. Doesn’t move throughout the night

6. Comfortable

7. Soft cushion padding

8. Easy to clean

Cons

1. Might cause nose bruising for people with narrow noses

2. Not great for side sleepers

2. Bulkier design than many of the newer masks in the market

Comfort

The soft cushion padding of the mask is made from silicone. The padding feels a lot like the elastic material in most swimming goggles. It almost attaches to your face, which helps prevent leakage and stops the mask from moving around too easily while sleeping. Silicon is a good choice of material because it’s elastic, durable, and very few people are allergic to it.

Hands down, one of my favorite features of the mask is the forehead support knob. It lets you adjust the mask to 24 different positions. This makes it much easier to find a mask fit that works for you. The frame shape gives you a good mask seal and helps prevent your mouth from opening up too much throughout the night. The default headgear is also durable and comfortable to wear.

From the review video, you can see that the mask protrudes forward quite a bit. Despite that being the case, the mask has a lot of space inside of it and doesn’t make you feel claustrophobic while wearing it. This also helps with preventing the feelings of “phantom itching” that a lot of us tend to get the second we turn the lights off and put our CPAP mask on.

Sleep Mobility

If you’re sleeping on your back, the Resmed Mirage Quattro keeps its seal around the face pretty nicely. The silicone soft padding and the adjustable knob give you some freedom of movement without causing you to feel claustrophobic. However, this mask is not the best option for people that prefer sleeping on their side. The forehead support and bulkiness of the mask do not give you enough clearance to sleep on your side without causing mask leakage.

Usually, whenever I would try sleeping on the side with the Mirage Quattro, a leak would develop. This was not a deal breaker for me because I usually prefer sleeping on my back. The good news here is that the mask doesn’t slip around your face if you’re sleeping on your back, even if you move your head around.

Taking the mask off is very quick and easy. If you ever wake up and have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, all you need to do is to un-clip the straps from your mask and you’re set. The clips are made from a durable plastic which you can easily clip and un-clip.

Mask Fit

This was the only significant problem I had with the mask. Due to my nose size and sensitive skin, I had a little bit of bruising on my nose bridge with this mask. I have a relatively narrow nose bridge with a deeper than usual septum, and this did not fit too well with the Resmed Mirage Quattro. I was able to adjust the mask using the forehead support and the headgear straps until I found a setting that worked the best for me. However, I still experienced very slight nose bruising at the mask setting that stopped mask leakage and fit me the best.

That being said, the Resmed Mirage Quattro might fight you well depending on the size and shape of your face and nose bridge. In my video, I provide a good view of what my nose structure is like and what it looks like with the mask on. That should serve as a bit of a reference when deciding if you believe you might experience the same thing with this mask.

Durability

The Resmed Mirage Quattro hard shell is resistant to wear and tear. The silicon padding is soft enough that it feels comfortable to your skin but tough enough that it won’t break or tear easily.  It is also very easy to clean. To do so, you would simply disassemble the mask, place it in boiling hot water with a bit of baking soda and leave it there for 5-10 minutes. In the review video, I show you how to disassemble the mask as well.

Overall Summary

Overall, the Resmed Mirage Quattro lives up to most of its expectations. I really like how the soft material attaches to the skin and feels snug. The forehead support knob is also a huge plus that allows patients to adjust the mask and find a fit that works. This is a welcome feature also because it helps relieve some of the pressure that comes from creating a good seal around the face. In addition, the vents on the Resmed Mirage Quattro are very well designed. During my time using this mask I never heard any sounds coming from the mask.

My final rating for the mask is:

90/100

I had no idea CPAP was used to help with sleep apnoea!

At first, as I read through the review, I wondered who would be buying a CPAP mask, other than someone ill. But then reading about your sleep apnoea made it all make sense.

We can take for granted simple things such as sleep, and I am glad these products are out there to help people that struggle.

Will be suggesting to friends that have trouble sleeping to explore sleep apnoea.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the world!

When you were demonstrating the fit you should have turned around so that we could see where the straps went behind your head.

I hear ResMedis discontinuing the mirage quattro. Have you heard this?

Not to my knowledge, if you check out their website, it says that you can still get it from medical providers. I’ve also seen it being sold in other online stores.
